HIGH NECKLINES - A trend that started to
emerge with the ready-to-wear collections,
the high dramatic neckline
was in full force on the Couture runways. Whether it was about
elongating the neck, as seen at Basil Soda, exaggerating proportions as
with Ulyana Sergeenko
or creating feathery face-framing glamour as per
Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel, the
emphasis was on a high or raised
neckline to bring out a sense of the theatrical.
The high-drama, Elizabethan-inspired ruff neck was the finishing touch for
looks at both Jean Paul Gaultier and On Tout Aura Vu.
The Basil Soda Fall/Winter 2012/13 Couture collection progresses towards three
dimensional silhouettes. A blow up of cuts, fabrics,
textures and prints. A floating of
embroideries, feathers, crystals, fur intarsias (Perisan Lamb a.o.) and
fringes spirit
overlooks the creations. High collars, shaped lines, bell-shaped gowns and puffed
skirts dominate. Transparent silk organza, sheen and delicate tulle, closely woven silk
gabardine, and gold stitching appliquéd over white and pale colors of silk tulle.

Basil Soda's inspiration for this couture collection was the enchanting transformation
of nature. From all Lebanese designers Basil Soda must be the one with his
own special stylejust creates magnificent structured gowns full of art and drama.
